Since millions of sites use GA hosting ga.js locally doesn't seem to make sense to me. If I'm not missing something in almost every case users will have their own version of
ga.js
cached localy and won't need to download it again.

See Can I host the ga.js file locally? for more information. Also the DNS lookup is less likely to be performed when a user hits your site as it's likely not the first time he/she uses a site with ga installed.

For google, they probably are updating the ga.js regularly, so it might not be a good idea to keep it locally, right?

I think there could be a good article for you to do with applying this method to google maps. There's some trickery involved I think, I had a quick try and get the error

this website is not auth'd for this key

Nice site mate, good to see it's still going strong.

Hi
I get 'TERM environment variable not set' error; could you please tell what the problem is and how to solve it?
I used one of your older shell scripts to cache URCHIN of GA, but now, i've got more js files to cache so i need this new version of your script to work.
I want to cache ShareThis js file, MyBlogLog js file, Quantserve js file and Google Analytics js file.
Thanks for your wonderful articles,
Keep up the good work.

Hi,

I think you need to replace the last bit in crontab command with
/dev/null 2>&1
, because I'm getting "term variable not set error".
