Best Free Online Banking for Web Professionals
I’ve spent a lot of time over the past 10 years managing my money online, and I want to let you all know my two favorite free online banks, Etrade and WaMu.
Etrade offers an incredible Savings Account, with no fees and no minimums, and the customer support is stellar. Etrade also offers a free Checking account, and you get a debit card with that, for free.
Here is a look at the default view when you log in to Etrade. Some of my favorite places are the retirement areas, where you can learn about how to retire. They also have a TON of great information for a lot of other subjects a Web Professional should know all about, credit score, home mortgages, etc..
WaMu is just fantastic. I’m sure you’ve seen their ad campaign talking about them being a different kind of bank. Well, they certainly are. They offer a great free savings account with huge interest rates, no monthly fees or any kind of fees, etc.. They also offer a free checking account that comes with a debit card. I have both.
Here is the default view when you login to WaMu, its really the best online banking interface I have ever seen.
I recommend signing up for a checking and savings account with both of these great banks, and if you like to play the market, go ahead and get an online brokerage account with Etrade. Happy Hunting! Etrade and WaMu

yeah, washington mutual’s pretty sucky. they’ve just revamped their website and i haven’t used it much since so i don’t know, but i can only hope the new look brings a lot of functional improvements, because it has heretofore sucked. confusing, misleading error messages, site unavailability, online banking CS reps who don’t read your message before replying to it, no way to tell to whom you paid a given check unless you have a separate record elsewhere, etc., etc.. i don’t know who wrote this entry, and i can’t say anything about e*trade, but this person’s opinion of washington mutual’s online banking makes me think S/he hasn’t had much experience with online banking.
I’ve had nothing with problems with WAMU. 13 day hold on goverment payroll checks, wire transfers that take 4 days to post instead of 10 minutes. Lost checks debit card, debit card with someone elses name, and Ive been a customer for less then 2 months.
Wachovia on the other hand was absolutly awesome Iseldom needed a branch with on line banking and ATMs filling every need. I understand Chase is also good.
WAMU stay away!
Both these are only available for US residents, in case anyone goes to sign up!
I’m amused at the fact that you think ETRADE is a good banking product. Any further justification on the matter? For me it has not been so delightful.
