Thanks so much for the links. I was under the impression from the post that ultradefrag had a way of managing the prefetcher, not just tweaking the reg settings of prefetcher itself. good to know, i'll give it a try.

I wanted to share that I've had good results with all the steps above and have automated as much of it as possible with task scheduler. The long steps took quite a bit less time for me than for you (under 2 hours even for the longest defrag). I hope people aren't discouraged to give it a try cause ymmv on the time it will take to complete.

@ Nedsferatu

I'm just glad someone appreciates it. For more information about prefetch please read the mydefrag forum post on prefetch and layout.ini which touches on many advanced topics and related things like BootVis.

This is getting more into registry modifications, which I try to keep off this blog and leave to the experts to explain.

Thanks so much for this post, have had really good results from completing all the steps. There is one part that has me puzzled though, I can't figure out how to enable ultradefrag to control the prefetch. I must be missing something big here cause i've been through the docs but still can't find it. help? thanks, love the blog.
