Dreamhost.com DNS zone troubles cause 350,000 dreamhost sites to go down for 8 hrs.
There is a temporary fix to get your site working again below
The dreamhost.com DNS zone is currently having troubles, so most hostnames within this zone are not resolving. This shouldn’t have any effect on customer sites’ DNS, only central DreamHost services that use the dreamhost.com domain (wiki, panel, etc).
We’re looking into the cause and getting things fixed up.
Update Thu Feb 22 03:18:44 PST 2007: The authoritative DNS servers are returning records correctly again, and things are returning to normal as cached answers expire.
If you are reading this then you probably already know what you’re doing. I’ll provide instructions for windows users.
notepad and hit enter.C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts127.0.0.1 localhost 66.33.201.141 www.dreamhost.com 208.113.144.20 lifesaver.dreamhost.com 66.33.201.130 panel.dreamhost.com

I am needing you to block my phone number from this site I am getting mean texts sent to my phone and this has been going on for about 2 years from different websites so any information you could give me about who it is would help me so I can get a restraining order against this person. I am sorry about this i just can’t figure out who it is and this is the first site that they actually had to sign into to be able to send a text to my phone…. the message came from noiprox@redondo.dreamhost.com is there any information you have on this person? Please let me know about any information you have. Thank you for your time and your help. I truely appreciate it!

Please note that the DNS issues only affected the dreamhost.com zone. All customer DNS data was still accessible. Sites were not down, nor were servers. SSHing/FTPing/etc… to yourdomain.com (as is recommended) continued to work properly.

Just a heads-up, I wanted our customers to know that they should remove this from their hosts file AS SOON as it’s no longer needed. The IP addresses of the various servers can change without notice for a variety of reasons, and if this happens, you’ll be unable to access your server and support will not be able to easily identify the cause of your issue!
